Polyethylene is very stable (meaning few things will react with it), which is why it is almost impossible to get quality repairs using adhesives, and also why it is used to contain chemicals (gasoline, pesticides, etc.) that would react with other plastics. Welding is the best repair method for polyethylene. A high degree of molecular branching with long chains gives molten LDPE unique and desirable flow properties, making it easier to work with while producing a high-strength and durable bond for both LDPE and HDPE welds.
